Gorge Culture

Besides having a lot of nice places for sports and recreation, the Mid Columbia River Gorge has some wonderful cultural resources, events and activities, museums, historical stuff, places to study natural sciences, rodeos, festivals, county fairs and annual community celebrations.   There are also many fine artists, craftspersons, poets, musicians, songwriters and theatre groups.

COLUMBIA GORGE ARTS & CULTURE COUNCIL has some great info about resources and opportunities for artists.

C.R.E.A.T.E. ART WORKSHOPS offers five day long art adventures in a broad variety of fine crafts and art.

Columbia Gorge Artists has a site to combine knowledge and resources to support one another in making and marketing art and fine crafts.

The Gorge has a lot of musical talent. There are many fine musicians of all styles, and a few local song writers as well.
The Columbia Gorge Bluegrass Festival will be going on at the Skamania County Fairgrounds in Stevenson Washington July 25 - 28, 2002

One of the biggest annual musical events in the gorge is Neon Nights, an outdoor summer concert at Riverside Park in The Dalles.

Other gorge musical events aren't as grand, but provide an example of gorge musical culture, like this event in Goldendale in 1999.

Another example of gorge culture can be found at the Wind Party 2000 page.
